Red Nose Day! – What's Behind the Red Nose

Kevin Cooper • Sep 27, 2016

While those celebrating Red Nose Day look silly, the reason for the occasion is anything but. Nearly 25 years ago, Comic Relief Inc. created Red Nose Day to raise money for children in poverty. Since their inception, they have raised 1 billion dollars for children in all 50 states and 15 countries around the world. How can you participate? Spread the word, donate, and wear your red nose with pride.Countless celebrities and corporations donate their time and resources to make this day a success every year. Tune in to NBC tonight at 8/9c to watch the 2 hour comedy special featuring a star-studded comedic cast. Viewers will have the opportunity to donate while watching, and we encourage you to consider how even a relatively small donation can impact a child. Check out these statistics:

The National Center for Children in Poverty (NCCP) reports that over 16 million children living in the United States alone are living in poverty. UNICEF reports that a staggering 1 billion children live in poverty worldwide. This is an epidemic of immense proportions, and we all need to chip in to make a difference. Consider throwing a viewing party with friends and family tonight, and make sure you post about the event on social media with the hashtag #RedNoseDay! We all can play a part in lessening the tragic effects of global poverty — so let’s get started!
